Smartpost shipments, truncation of address problem

We have been bitten by this bug a couple of times now so I thought I would post it and see if it is something in our setup or if it is a bug in the software. We use ShipRush for Outlook and the address is copied into ShipRush from the contact. If the address is too long (for FedEx Home/Ground), there is an alert and the user is required to shorten it. It turns out, however, that the max length for a SMARTPOST shipment is 4 chars shorter than that for FedEx Home/Ground. The picture below shows the problem clearly. If you have the default shipment type set to FedEx Home or Ground and hit ShipRush and then CHANGE the shipment type to SmartPost the fact that the address must be 4 chars shorter is not picked up by the software and the label just prints out with a truncated address. Usually this results in a missing apartment number and the box comes back undelivered from USPS. We have tried altering the label printer settings to no avail. We use a FedEx supplied Zebra 500 series label printer.
